Starting Music for FRIDAY, Feb. 11th, 2022

Good morning, NE Ohio and the rest of the world! It’s FRIDAY, Feb. 11th –the 42nd day of the year. Here in the Hall of Fame city, we have partly cloudy skies to start the day, an expected low of 24 degrees Fahrenheit early this morning, and an expected high of 46. Enjoy the snow-pack while you can, we have a couple of 50-degree days in the forecast next week! We saw a trace of precipitation and snowfall yesterday and overnight. The recorded overnight snow depth dropped 2” and is now approximately 6.00”. Winds are out of the S with gusts up to 20 mph, barometric pressure is still falling, now at 29.78, and the humidity is steady at 73%.

The sun came up 1 minute earlier than yesterday at 7:24 a.m. and will set 1 min. later than yesterday at 17:55 hours. The moon is still waxing gibbous (76.8%) and will be out again at 13:08 hours. It set early this morning at 4:04 a.m.

Today is the World Day of the Sick and International Day of Women and Girls in Science. Day of the Sick, as decreed by Pope John Paul II, asks believers to offer prayers for those suffering illnesses and coincides with the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes. The Feast refers to apparitions of the Virgin Mary (Our Lady) said to have been seen by a young girl named Bernadette Soubirous (later canonized as a saint) in and around Lourdes, France. The Day of Women and Girls in Science came about to bring attention to the gap (at the time) between men (37%) and women (18%) graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in science.

Today’s birthdays include Leo Szilard, who worked with Einstein and helped conceive many of the things we know about nuclear power, the electron microscope, chemostat, feedback inhibition, and cloning. Although he was part of the Manhattan Project, he later founded the Council for a Livable World in an effort to deliver a voice of reason about nuclear weapons to the American public and government. Other birthdays include musician Sheryl Crow (All I Want To Do, If It Makes You Happy) and actress Jennifer Aniston (Rachel on Friends).

Moving on to sports -today I’ll be rooting for the Cleveland Cavaliers (NBA) vs. Indiana Pacers, the Dallas Stars (NHL) vs. the Winnipeg Jets, the Kent State Golden Flashes (NCAA Men’s Basketball) vs. the Akron Zips (grew up closer to Kent than Akron), and Team USA in the Winter Olympics. Last night, the Mavs beat the Clippers, the Blue Jackets won in overtime (OT), the Lady Buckeyes beat the Lady Cornhuskers, and Team USA kind of had mixed results at the Olympics.

Here are the results at the close of yesterday’s markets for my itty-bitty (but growing!) portfolio and the stocks that I’m watching (Overall refers to “since I’ve been tracking daily since mid-January).

MTCH -$2.79/share; -$1.44/share overall

NOA +$0.09/share; +$0.30/share overall

T (AT&T) -$0.25/share; -$0.96/share overall

My portfolio was up (another big jump for DIS!), and the cryptocurrency Etherium was down this morning -$0.03 to $2.13/coin; -$23.19/coin overall.

Check out Stockpile for traditional shares because you can order by a dollar amount instead of whole shares and build from there.

Well, that’s a wrap. I’ll be starting the day off with a Sheryl Crow song since it’s been a while since I gave her music a listen –“All I Wanna Do” from the “Tuesday Night Music Club” album. The song includes lyrics adapted from Wyn Cooper’s poem “Fun” (1987).

Remember, Fear is the Mind-Killer, Don’t Panic, Keep Your Head Right with Ball, and May God be gracious to you and bless you and make His face shine upon you.
