Starting Music for Wednesday, Feb. 16th, 2022

Aloha world! Here in the Hall of Fame city located in NE Ohio (USA), it’s Wednesday, Feb. 16th –the 47th day of the year. We have sunny skies again to start the day, with a low of 29 degrees Fahrenheit earlier this morning. Our forecast high is 51 later this afternoon, marking the first time we’ve been above the 40s since the first day of the year! We saw no precipitation or snowfall yesterday/overnight, and the recorded overnight snow depth is still approximately 4”. We are currently under a flash flood watch due to melting snow and heavy rains expected overnight and tomorrow. Winds are brisk out of the S at 5 to 20 mph, barometric pressure is at 30.29, and the humidity is way down to 55%.

The sun came up 1 minute earlier than yesterday at 7:18 a.m. and will set 1 min. later than yesterday at 18:01 hours, starting it’s run of setting in the 6-o’clock hour (yay –more daylight!). The moon is now waning gibbous (99.8%) and will start its run at 18:02 hours. It set earlier this morning at 7:41 a.m.

Those of you who are early risers with telescopes could see Mercury (in Capricornus), Venus, and Mars (both in Sagittarius) this morning.

This morning I removed 6,218 trackers (mostly social media and advertising) from my PC. That’s almost 34,000 trackers in 4 days and the real cause of internet lag and slow connections. And I don’t even do those silly online quizzes like “What kind of animal are you?”

Today marks 2 weeks since Groundhog day. How are their predictions looking? On this date in 1741, Benjamin Franklin begins publishing his General Magazine. In 1771, Charles Messier furthers our knowledge of the Cosmos with his original list of 45 M-objects (a. k. a. Messier objects) to help filter them out as non-comets. In 1861, President Abraham Lincoln stops his train to thank 11-year-old Grace Bedell for her suggestion to grow a beard. In 1968 Elvis Presley gets a gold record for his rendition of “How Great Thou Art”.

Today’s birthdays include John McEnroe (Tennis greatness), Ohio’s own Vera-Ellen (roaring 20s actress/dancer), Keith Gretzky (Wayne’s brother), Sonny Bono (of Sonny & Cher fame), actor LeVar Burton (Kunta Kinte in Roots; the Reading Rainbow; Lt. Cmdr. Geordi La Forge in Star Trek: The Next Generation), and actress Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch in the Marvel cinematic universe).

Moving on to sports –tonight I’ll be rooting the following collegiate teams..

NCAA Men’s basketball

SMU Mustangs vs. the Temple Owls

NCAA Women’s basketball

Kent State Golden Flashes vs. the Northern Illinois Huskies

Akron Zips vs. the Central Michigan Chippewas

SMU Mustangs vs. the Memphis Tigers

..and, of course, Team USA in the Winter Olympics.

Yesterday/last night the Cavs lost to the Hawks, the Mavs beat the Heat, the Blue Jackets lost to the Flames, and the Stars beat the Avalanche. The Buckeyes beat the Golden Gophers, the Golden Flashes beat the Rockets, and Team USA dropped to 4th position for the Winter Olympics medals count after a strong showing by Germany. Team USA now has 8 Gold, 7 Silver, and 4 Bronze (19 total).

Here are the results at the close of yesterday’s markets for my itty-bitty (but growing!) portfolio and the stocks that I’m watching (Overall refers to “since I’ve been tracking daily; mid-January for MTCH and T; mid-February for VMEO).

MTCH +$4.66/share; +$2.60/share overall

VMEO +$0.07/share; +$0.25/share overall

T (AT&T) +$0.29/share; -$0.87/share overall

The portfolio was up big thanks to gains by DIS and MJ, but NOA was down a bit, and the Minds coins cryptocurrency (based on Ethereum) was up this morning approximately +$0.19 to $2.45/coin; -$13.14/coin overall.

Check out Stockpile for traditional shares because you can order by a dollar amount instead of whole shares and build from there.

Well, that’s a wrap. I’ll be starting the day off with the next song in my playlist –“Gimme 3 Steps” by Lynrd Skynrd from the album “(Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd)” (1973) –I love that they made the pronunciation the album title. This song was inspired by a real-life incident that happened to Ronnie Van Zant and has some fun in recollection of what was a serious occurrence at the time.

Remember, Fear is the Mind-Killer, Don’t Panic, Keep Your Head Right with Ball, and May God be gracious to you and bless you and make His face shine upon you.
